Russian forces attacked Kyiv overnight on July 6 with ballistic missiles and drones. According to the command of the Ukrainian Air Force, a total of 68 missiles of various types and more than 350 drones, including decoy drones, were launched across Ukraine. Kyiv was the main target of the strike.
Air-defense forces protecting the Ukrainian capital were unable to intercept any of the 23 ballistic missiles or six Zircon missiles. Yurii Ihnat, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, said Ukrainian forces lack missiles for Patriot air-defense systems.
According to the latest figures from Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, 11 people were killed in the strike and another 46 were injured. Buildings were damaged in four districts, with the most serious destruction in Podilskyi. Ukrainian authorities warn that the death and injury tolls are not final: rescue operations are continuing at the sites of destroyed buildings.
July 7 has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv. SFG Media publishes photographs of the aftermath of the Russian strike on the city.
