In Kyiv, a Ukrainian air-defense missile apparently malfunctioned and fell in the courtyard of a residential building. According to preliminary information, it may have been an interceptor launched while repelling a Russian strike on the Vizar machine-building plant.
Eyewitnesses
The circumstances of the incident are being established. There has so far been no official confirmation that it was an interceptor that fell in the courtyard—the version is based on preliminary data from the scene.
The Vizar plant is located in Vyshneve, near Kyiv, and is linked to the production of missile technology, including components for Neptune anti-ship missiles. The facility has already been targeted by Russian strikes—in April 2022, cruise missiles were launched at it shortly after the sinking of the cruiser Moskva, which, according to the Ukrainian side, was hit by Neptunes.
Abnormal operation of surface-to-air missiles is a known phenomenon when repelling massive attacks. Some of the destruction in residential neighborhoods during such strikes is caused not only by the weapons themselves, but also by debris from intercepted targets and interceptors that deviate from their trajectory.
