Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the republic had exercised its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The ministry said strikes on facilities linked to U.S. forces were carried out in response to U.S. actions.
The ministry noted that U.S. airstrikes on facilities on the country’s southern coast violate the UN Charter and the first clause of the memorandum on ending the war.
Tehran also said that Israel, in coordination with the United States, had attacked Lebanon, which, according to the Iranian side, also violates the memorandum on ending the war between the two countries.
In addition, Tehran called on the states of the southern coast of the Persian Gulf not to allow their territory to be used for attacks against Iran, and appealed to the UN secretary-general, the Security Council and other international organizations to respond to U.S. actions.
Iran did not specify exactly which facilities were struck or where they are located.
As a reminder, U.S. Central Command said American forces had carried out strikes on Iranian territory in response to a drone attack on the commercial vessel M/V Ever Lovely in the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement, saying at least four drones had been launched at ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
