US forces carried out strikes on Iranian territory overnight on July 9. US Central Command said dozens of military targets had been hit, including air-defense systems, missile and drone depots, naval facilities, and logistics infrastructure.
CENTCOM says the strikes are intended to weaken Iran’s ability to attack vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Health Ministry, according to CNN, said 14 people had been killed and another 78 wounded in US strikes over the past two days.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had attacked US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in response. The consequences of that attack are not yet known.
On July 8, Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire with Iran was “over”. “I don’t want to deal with them [Iran] anymore,” the US president said.
