Iranian forces have resumed attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Axios reports, citing two US officials.
According to the outlet, on Monday, July 6, Iran fired at least two missiles at ships passing through the strait. Axios sources believe the US is likely to respond with strikes on Iranian targets.
One of the strikes hit a tanker traveling south off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz. A fire broke out on board after the impact.
Another commercial vessel, according to Axios, was also attacked by an Iranian missile.
A source told the outlet that both cargo ships sustained significant damage. According to preliminary information, there were no deaths.
The attacks could derail a memorandum of understanding signed less than three weeks ago. Under that agreement, Iran agreed to stop attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, Axios writes.
