A peace memorandum between the United States and Iran that would lift some sanctions on Tehran and unblock Iranian assets could be signed as soon as June 14, Reuters reports, citing sources.
According to the agency, the document is expected to be signed in Geneva. On the U.S. side, it is to be signed by Vice President JD Vance; on the Iranian side, by parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Under the draft memorandum, the United States will begin unfreezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets and lift sanctions on Iranian oil exports. In exchange, Iran is expected to open the Strait of Hormuz.
“Under the draft agreement, which multiple sources told Reuters about, the United States will begin unfreezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets and lift sanctions on oil exports in exchange for Iran opening the strait. The issue of Iran’s nuclear program will be discussed during subsequent 60-day negotiations,” Reuters writes.
The agency notes, however, that Tehran has previously said it would be impossible to dismantle its nuclear program.
