Russia’s Defense Ministry said that overnight on July 6, Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 519 Ukrainian drones over more than 20 Russian regions, annexed Crimea, and the waters of the Sea of Azov.
The total number of drones involved in the attack is unknown. The Russian ministry reports only the drones it says were shot down.
In Yaroslavl, Ukrainian drones apparently attacked the Yaroslavnefteorgsintez oil refinery—Slavneft-YANOS. Published footage shows smoke over the city.
Authorities in the Yaroslavl region reported only a Ukrainian drone attack on the region. Traffic leaving Yaroslavl toward Moscow was blocked for several hours. Governor Mikhail Yevrayev did not report the consequences of the attack.
Astra notes that Ukrainian drones have repeatedly attacked the Yaroslavl refinery before, including in May. The plant is one of Russia’s largest oil-refining enterprises.
In the Leningrad region, according to preliminary data from local authorities, infrastructure facilities were damaged at the Luzhsky training ground, as well as in the areas of the ports of Ust-Luga and Vysotsk. The specific facilities affected were not specified. Authorities said there were no casualties.
In annexed Sevastopol, electricity went out after an attack on energy infrastructure outside the city, Russian-appointed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said. He warned that trolleybuses would not run in the city in the morning. Social facilities were switched to backup power-supply schemes.
Later, Krymenergo reported a blackout across the entire territory of Crimea. Repair work is under way.
