Russia struck Kyiv overnight on July 19 in what monitoring channels describe as the largest ballistic-missile attack on the capital since the full-scale invasion began. According to their data, roughly 40 ballistic missiles were launched at the city in about 40 minutes. Preliminary reports indicate that one person was killed and eight injured—the figures are still being confirmed.
Damage was recorded in at least five districts of the city. In the Solomianskyi district, an office building is on fire, while a nine-story apartment building was damaged and firefighters continue to battle a blaze covering roughly 200 square meters; a nonresidential building also caught fire. In the Shevchenkivskyi district’s Lukianivka neighborhood, flames engulfed 400 square meters of a three-story building, more than 10 parked cars burned and the area around the Lukianivska metro station was damaged.
The roof of a private home caught fire in the Sviatoshynskyi district, as did a nonresidential building in the Desnianskyi district, while cars were reported burning in the Dniprovskyi district.
If the figure of 40 missiles is confirmed, the attack will set a record for the use of ballistic weapons. The previous high was recorded overnight on July 6, when 28 ballistic missiles were launched at Kyiv, according to Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat—at the time, it was described as a record for a single attack on the capital. That strike killed at least 31 people and wounded more than 100.
