Because of the abnormal heat, air conditioning at the European Commission’s headquarters was switched off for almost all employees, Politico reports. An exception was made for the offices of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the European commissioners.
Employees received an urgent notice about the forced shutdown of the cooling system on the first seven floors of the building because of the extreme heat.
The decision caused discontent among European Commission employees. “It feels like feudalism,” said one official who works on the lower floors. Another employee called the situation “a disgrace.”
