An extreme heat wave in Europe has led to the deaths of 3,700 people, Reuters reports.
According to the agency, the most severe heat wave on record lasted roughly from June 20 to June 28.
In France, according to Health Minister Stéphanie Rist, 2,025 excess deaths were recorded. The increase in mortality was most pronounced among people over 45.
In Belgium, according to the Health Ministry, around 1,200 excess deaths were registered from June 18 to June 29.
In the Netherlands, the heat caused roughly 480 excess deaths. Most of those cases involved people over 80.
