The killing of Anastasia Berezovska, who was suspected of involvement in a terrorist attack in Monaco, could “cost Kyiv dearly,” The Guardian writes.
The article focuses on the death of the woman suspected of attempting to kill Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaiev. The newspaper describes the case as “the latest twist in an affair that has shaken the wealthy Mediterranean principality.”
The Guardian cites details of Berezovska’s killing published by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office. At the same time, the newspaper notes that it cannot independently verify the version presented by Ukrainian prosecutors.
“This scandal could cost Kyiv dearly politically. Any evidence linking Ukrainian security-service personnel to an explosion on European soil would cause serious damage to Ukraine, especially as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the NATO summit on Tuesday seeking to secure further Western support,” The Guardian writes.
The newspaper also notes that Ukraine has carried out numerous operations using explosive devices on Russian territory, but that similar attacks had not previously taken place in Europe.
