Overnight on July 16, the United States and Iran exchanged missile strikes against targets on each other’s territory and in neighboring countries.
The US military attacked several parts of Iran. Explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, Ahvaz, Konarak, Sirik, Qeshm and Tehran, as well as in the provinces of Hamadan, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Lorestan, Markazi and Sistan and Baluchestan.
Iran’s Health Ministry said one of the strikes hit near a cancer hospital in Ahvaz that housed a pediatric ward. No deaths or injuries have yet been reported.
Iran, in turn, attacked US facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have struck the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet and Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base, as well as communications equipment and fuel depots at the Shaikh Isa base in Jordan.
The extent of any damage is unknown. The United States has not yet commented on the reported attacks.
