US President Donald Trump held a meeting with national-security officials to consider the possibility of landing American troops on Iran’s Kharg Island, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the discussions. The island is a critical hub for Iranian oil exports.
According to the newspaper, the discussion was not limited to Kharg. Other potential targets included the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb in the Strait of Hormuz.
Participants also considered expanding the air campaign against Iran, including strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure.
