A grave containing the remains of at least 38 people who died in 1943 has been discovered during exhumation work near Kovel, in Ukraine’s Volyn region.
The grave is a pit roughly six meters long and two meters wide. Some of the remains bear signs of physical trauma.
Yaroslav Onyshchuk, a doctor of historical sciences and representative of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, said personal belongings were found alongside the remains—including rings, beads, buttons, crosses and small icons.
Ukrainian and Polish specialists are jointly examining the burial site.
