The Finnish Border Guard has received €44 million to counter drones and will purchase a new surveillance system for the border with Russia.
The agency announced the funding. The equipment will be acquired using national and European financing.
The funds will be used, in particular, to purchase a stationary system for surveillance and countering drones along Finland’s eastern border with Russia.
The Border Guard will also buy patrol vehicles and boats equipped with counter-drone systems.
In addition, the agency will accelerate the modernization of the operational systems on the patrol vessel Turva. This will include the installation of more effective anti-drone systems.
In 2026 and 2027, Finland will also deploy two new patrol vessels with expanded surveillance and drone-use capabilities.
The Border Guard’s systems are being prepared for compatibility with those of the Defence Forces and the police.
The agency plans to bring the use of such technologies to its target level in 2027–2029. Finnish authorities have also already applied to the EU for an additional €36 million for these purposes.
