Stefan Keuter, a Bundestag lawmaker from Alternative for Germany, said that by sending financial aid to Ukraine, Germany is “sponsoring one of the most corrupt governments in the world.”
“Billions are being sent to Ukraine—for weapons, financial aid, commitments. Moreover, no one knows how many billions have gone to luxury villas, yachts, hotels and casinos belonging to Zelensky and his henchmen,” Keuter said.
According to him, Germany continues to finance Ukraine against the backdrop of domestic discussions about raising the retirement age to 70 and cutting social benefits.
“We are discussing raising the retirement age to 70 and abolishing survivor pensions, and at the same time sponsoring one of the most corrupt governments in the world—that is shameful,” the lawmaker said.
Keuter also criticized the European Union’s sanctions policy. He claims the restrictions are doing more damage to the German economy than to Russia.
In addition, the lawmaker condemned Ukrainian strikes on targets inside Russia, saying they increase the risk of further escalation of the war.
In Keuter’s view, Germany should focus on diplomacy and finding ways to achieve a ceasefire, rather than continuing military support for Ukraine.
