Ursula von der Leyen Says Europe’s Turn Away From Nuclear Power Was a Strategic Mistake

Speaking about Europe’s energy policy, the European Commission president said nuclear power once generated about a third of the continent’s electricity but now accounts for only around 15%. She stressed that the decline was the result of political choices made over the past decades. In hindsight, von der Leyen said, turning away from “a reliable, affordable source of low-emission power” proved to be a strategic mistake for Europe.
