Romantic collages by André Gonçalves

While traveling each of us pays attention to some peculiar details of the new places. André Gonçalves finds something special about every building and every window.
André Gonçalves' project Windows of the World not just puts together hundreds of windows. It unites hundreds of stories, hidden behind the glass of each of them. Great sets of such individual, different details easily form an image of the history, culture and architecture of every city or even country. Let’s take for example the Venice windows. Looking at them we dive into the unique atmosphere of carnivals with gondoliers, delicate palaces and sacred places. But if we leave the city center and we shall see an absolutely different, bright and exceptionally motley architecture and windows of the Burano district.
So let’s find out who actually this window-master is. André Vicent Gonçalves is a resident of Portugal, a very hot and temperamental country. Probably it was his home country that has greatly influenced the way this photographer sees the world around. His every picture has passion, special mood and rhythms of Bossa nova. Being asked how he has learned to see the unique in everyday life views and objects he answers using the words of the great Confucius: “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life”.
Doubtlessly, it is hard to think materially or resist the temptation of making beautiful creative pictures when Barcelona is so great with its windows!
André skillfully creates his mosaics, step by step adding new important details to every set. Sometimes he unites them according to the colors, sometimes sorts by architecture, sometimes they are combined to make us feel the mood of the whole districts or cities. We can find everything in these windows: Renaissance and Gothic, minimalism and pluralism, classics and modern. We can not speak for the whole world, but we are sure that most of you, like ourselves, will be staring at these windows for hours, researching and exploring colors, shutters, curves, monograms and reflections. And even though a window is a tiny part of the whole façade “this is a unique evolution from a small hole in the wall, — says André, and we can nothing but agree with him,— to an architectural masterpiece”.
Italy, Portugal, England, Spain open their windows to us thanked to unbelievable collages created by André Gonçalves'. Their variety excites the unbearable desire to put all the most necessary things into a small colorful suitcase and burst into traveling to the most beautiful non-touristic districts and towns and create your own collection of peculiar façades.
