Progressive art or abstractionism in works of Iranian artist Salman Khoshroo

The artist was born in Tehran, but when he was little he and his family moved to New York and after school to Australia, where Salman got a bachelor's degree in digital arts. After graduation, he returned to Iran, where he lives nowadays. Speaking of talent, first Salman tried to look at the world through the camera lens and even held several of his own photo exhibitions. With the lapse of time his passion for photography turned into something completely new. The political situation in the country had a significant impact on this transformation. When it became too dangerous for taking pictures in the streets of Tehran, Khoshroo began to spend all his free time in the studio. So there was originated this transformation from photography to painting.

Salman didn't get a second degree or additional education — all his paintings became as a results of everyday hard work and, of course, the inspiration from Lucien Freud and Claude Monet paintings. Completely dive in art, he painted portraits of all the people he met in his life. In 2014, Salman held the first exhibition of paintings. He presented 10 of his works.

His next exhibition was completely different from what he showed to the public a year before. Because of pretty wide strokes and thick layers of oil paint, the portraits looked so real that it seemed that their characters were about to leave the canvas and go for a walk straight to the gallery. And the abstract manner of portraits increases this feeling.

But even after this success the experiments wasn't over. This time, Salman put the brush aside and picked up spatulas of different width and shape. His paintings have become larger, and the texture is even more pronounced. Portraits gave the leading place to the bright, curving figures of people who somehow resemble anatomical images from biology books. His works create associations somewhere deep in the subconscious of people, that are clear only to the viewer. This is a kind of combination of visual perception and imagination of a person at the subconscious level.

Not surprisingly, Salman have decided to go beyond the flat canvas and create an incredible series of 3D sculptures of wires of different colors that are connected to a moving mechanism. This time, you can look at created person figure in volume and, importantly, in motion. You can even look inside the sculpture through thin wires. Who knows, maybe this symbolic gesture will help someone to discover in them the emotional sensitivity that they have been seeking for a long time. This is the main message of the artist.
