During the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan, the crowd booed U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance when he appeared on the screen during the parade of the American team, Politico reports.
Europe’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, described the audience’s reaction as an expression of “European pride.” According to her, it was a response to the harsh and dismissive remarks American politicians have made about Europe.
Kallas stressed that the audience had thus demonstrated that Europe has its own position—and the readiness to defend it.
