The incident occurred in Senatobia, Mississippi. Walmart employees called police, reporting the theft of diapers. Officers who arrived at the scene noticed a car leaving the supermarket. Inside the vehicle were two Black women and a one-year-old child.
Police opened fire on the vehicle. As a result, one-year-old Kohen Wiley was killed, and one of the women was hospitalized with serious gunshot wounds.
Senatobia police claim the shooting began after the car failed to stop when ordered by officers and tried to hit one of them.
The officers’ actions are now being reviewed as part of an internal investigation.
