The United States could sharply reduce the volume of military resources that could be sent to Europe in the event of war, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
According to the agency, the EU is preparing for a significant reduction in U.S. military support in the event of possible hostilities on the European continent.
According to one Bloomberg source, the reductions would involve a 30% cut in the number of strategic bombers, a 75–100% cut in reconnaissance and strike drones, and a 50% cut in naval ships. In addition, the number of fighter jets could be reduced by about a third.
“According to the sources, Europeans are now considering how the continent could fight a war without U.S. support. The issue was discussed at a meeting of defense ministers from the ‘European Five’ on Friday, where the focus was on how to achieve the same military objectives using the remaining weapons and equipment,” Bloomberg writes.
