The U.S. Army has abandoned plans to deploy more than 4,000 troops to Poland. Defense News reports, citing an unnamed U.S. Army official.
The deployment involved the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division, which had been scheduled to deploy to Poland along with its equipment and weapons systems.
Earlier in May, Stars and Stripes reported that the U.S. military was preparing to deploy around 4,000 troops to Poland and other areas along NATO’s eastern flank.
According to Defense News, the decision to send the unit has now been canceled.
Approximately 10,000 American troops are currently stationed in Poland.
