The U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust division said it sees no grounds to block Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of the media holding company Warner Bros. Discovery.
The review of the potential deal lasted eight months. At its conclusion, the department determined that the merger would not harm competition or consumers, Reuters reports.
Paramount, commenting on the Justice Department’s decision, said the company is doing everything possible to close the deal soon.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta, however, stressed that the merger of Warner Bros. and Paramount is not yet a settled matter. His office is continuing its own investigation, and the attorney general still has the ability to block the deal.
