Unidentified drones were detected over Belgian military facilities, the outlet VRT reported, citing the country’s Ministry of Defense.
During an inspection of surveillance equipment at the Elsenborn training ground, located near the German border, 15 drones were spotted by chance. The site is used for live-fire exercises.
Preliminary information suggests the drones crossed the border and entered Germany. They were later observed by police in the city of Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Who was operating the aircraft and for what purpose remains unknown. An investigation is under way.
In recent months, unidentified drones have been regularly detected across EU countries. Many European politicians blame Russia, but Moscow denies the allegations.
