Ukrainian forces struck a Russian fertilizer and chemical-products plant in the Tula region, as well as an oil-storage facility in the Yaroslavl region.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the Azot plant in the Tula region carries out operations critical to Russia’s ability to produce explosives.
Tula region Governor Dmitry Milyaev said drone debris fell on the grounds of an industrial enterprise in Novomoskovsk and that the extent of the damage was being assessed, Interfax reports. Novomoskovsk is located about 200 kilometers south of Moscow and about 660 kilometers northeast of Kyiv.
In the Yaroslavl region, northeast of Moscow, strikes hit fuel-storage facilities and caused a fire, the region’s governor, Mikhail Yevrayev, said, according to Interfax. The facilities belong to Rosrezerv. The region is located about 1,000 kilometers northeast of Kyiv.
Footage on social media showed a large plume of smoke obscuring the sky. On Sunday, several airports temporarily restricted flights, and traffic on the road between Yaroslavl and Moscow was disrupted, the state agency TASS reports.
Separately, in the Oryol region in western Russia, one person was killed and eight were injured after a Ukrainian drone hit a residential building, the region’s governor, Andrei Klychkov, said, according to Interfax.
Zelensky said on X that Ukraine carried out the strikes “in response to Russia’s refusal to end this war.” “We offered the Russian leadership every possible format for negotiations—and the only response was continued aggression and attempts to expand it,” he wrote.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said Russian forces intercepted 249 Ukrainian drones overnight over several regions and the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia attacked overnight with 98 drones, of which 91 were shot down.
The previous day, on Saturday, a fire broke out at the port of Temryuk in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region. According to Russian authorities, it was caused by debris from a Ukrainian drone.
