The leaders of Germany, France, Britain and Ukraine agreed after a meeting in London on five conditions they consider necessary to achieve a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine, DW reports.
In a joint statement, the first condition named was the cessation of hostilities.
The second was the use of the current front line as the starting point for peace talks.
The participants in the meeting also believe that after a ceasefire, Ukraine should receive legally binding security guarantees. These include the deployment of multinational forces on Ukrainian territory.
In addition, Russian assets are proposed to remain frozen until the war ends and compensation is paid to Ukraine.
Another condition named was the “protection of European security interests within the framework of any future arrangements.”
Russia and the United States, it should be recalled, are demanding that Kyiv withdraw its troops from Donbas to end the war.
Moscow also opposes the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine.
