A shooting attack took place in Jerusalem when two assailants opened fire at a bus stop at a busy intersection in the northern part of the city. At least five people were killed in the attack. Another 15 were injured, six of them critically.
According to police, the gunfire was directed at people waiting for the bus. Israeli media reported that the attackers also entered the bus and opened fire inside. Police said the assailants were neutralized shortly after the attack began but did not disclose their identities or current condition.

Israeli police and emergency workers at the scene of the shooting in Jerusalem.
The shooting took place at a major intersection near the northern entrance to Jerusalem, on the road leading to Jewish settlements in the eastern part of the city.
Footage from the scene showed dozens of people fleeing the bus stop in panic during rush hour. Paramedics described the situation as chaotic: the area was littered with shards of glass, while wounded and unconscious people lay on the road and sidewalk near the stop.
The war in Gaza has triggered a surge of violence both inside Israel and in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian militants have carried out attacks and killed Israelis in Israel and the West Bank, while assaults by Israeli settlers against Palestinians have also increased.
In recent months, Israel has seen sporadic attacks, but the last mass shooting with multiple casualties before the Jerusalem events took place in October 2024. At that time, two Palestinians from the West Bank opened fire on a busy boulevard and at a light rail station in the Tel Aviv area, killing seven and wounding many. Hamas’s military wing claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to police, the gunmen also fired directly into a light rail car packed with passengers that was standing at the station in the Jaffa district.
