Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a three-day ceasefire from May 9 through May 11.
According to the U.S. president, the initiative came directly from him, while Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky supported the proposal.
“I am pleased to announce that there will be a three-day ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine (May 9, 10 and 11). Russia celebrates Victory Day, but so does Ukraine, because they were also a major part and factor in World War II,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added that the truce предусматривает a complete halt to active military operations, as well as a prisoner exchange under a 1,000-for-1,000 formula.
“This request came directly from me, and I greatly appreciate the agreement of President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky,” Trump said.
The U.S. president expressed hope that the temporary ceasefire would become a step toward ending the war.
“Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and difficult war. Negotiations to end this major conflict, the largest since World War II, are continuing, and every day we are getting closer and closer,” he wrote.
