U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause in strikes on Iran, linking the decision to the outcome of recent contacts between the two sides.
“I am pleased to report that over the past two days, the United States and Iran have held very successful talks. I have ordered all military strikes to be postponed for five days,” the U.S. president said.
Iranian media affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have rejected claims of talks with Donald Trump, asserting that no contacts took place. In their account, the decision to pause was driven by concerns over a possible Iranian response.
Iran’s embassy in Kabul said that Donald Trump had abandoned plans to strike energy infrastructure after a “stern warning” from Tehran.
Following Trump’s statement, the price of Brent crude fell from $108 to $96 a barrel, while Bitcoin, along with Ether, Solana, U.S. Treasury bonds and equity futures, rose.
