On the eve of his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, Donald Trump delivered a sharp critique of the United Nations, arguing that the organization has failed to play any meaningful role in efforts to stop the war in Ukraine. In his words, responsibilities that formally rest with the United Nations have, in practice, been taken over by the United States.
Trump claimed that over the past eleven months he has “settled and stopped” all wars and conflicts—“EIGHT”—and on that basis concluded that the United States has effectively become the “REAL United Nations.” He described the UN itself as having provided “very little assistance or help” in a number of crises, including what he called “the disaster currently going on between Russia and Ukraine.” He ended by urging the organization to “start getting active and involved in WORLD PEACE!”
