British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Russia could be ready to attack a NATO country as early as 2030, The Guardian reports.
He said assessments by British intelligence and the intelligence services of other alliance members point to that possibility. Starmer said London needs to accelerate the increase in defense spending because of the potential threat from Russia.
“If you needed a reminder of the importance of this, our intelligence and the intelligence services of other NATO countries believe that a Russian attack on NATO could happen as early as 2030,” Starmer said.
He said the government would present a defense-investment plan in the coming weeks. The document will focus on developing the military capabilities Britain considers necessary for its own defense.
Starmer also said higher defense spending should be accompanied by the creation of new skilled and well-paid jobs in the country.
