Spain has closed its airspace to American aircraft involved in strikes on Iran. That was announced by Defense Minister Margarita Robles, Reuters reports.
“We are permitting neither the use of military bases nor the use of airspace for actions connected to the war in Iran,” she told reporters in Madrid.
According to Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo, the move follows an earlier government decision not to take part in or facilitate “a war that was launched unilaterally and in violation of international law.”
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has consistently opposed the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them reckless and unlawful.
In response, Donald Trump threatened to scale back trade with Spain.
