The U.S. Senate has approved a government funding bill, paving the way to end the longest shutdown in the country’s history, which has now lasted more than forty days.
According to CNN, the measure passed with support from 60 senators, while 40 voted against. Among those in favor were seven Democrats and one independent senator.
The bill will now move to the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold the majority. The session is scheduled for November 12. Once approved, the measure will go to President Donald Trump for his signature, allowing the government to reopen.
