Russia’s Defense Ministry said drones destroyed two Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jets at the Voznesensk airfield in Mykolaiv region. According to the ministry, one aircraft with ammunition was parked in front of a reinforced-concrete shelter, while the second was being refueled at the time.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claims the strike was carried out by two Geran-4 seeker drones. As a result, according to the Russian side, two MiG-29s, a fuel tanker, an APA-5D special airfield unit, as well as flight and engineering personnel who had arrived to prepare the aircraft for takeoff, were destroyed.
The Russian side released video showing one aircraft on fire. Ukraine had not commented on the claim at the time of publication.
On the same day, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that on the night of June 27 it lost a MiG-29 fighter jet that was carrying out a combat mission in Poltava region. The Ukrainian pilot ejected and was hospitalized. The Ukrainian side provided no other details.
The statements from the two sides do not match on key details. Russia says two aircraft were destroyed at the Voznesensk airfield in Mykolaiv region, while Ukraine reported the loss of one MiG-29 during a combat mission in Poltava region. In addition, the video published by the Russian side, according to its description, shows one burning aircraft, although Russia’s Defense Ministry claims two fighter jets were destroyed.
