The Russian corvette Soobrazitelny prevented a German coast guard vessel from approaching the sanctioned tanker Kira K in the Baltic Sea, the Finnish publication Iltalehti reports.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 30, in the Fehmarn Sound. According to the publication, the Kira K, carrying oil, was heading toward the Danish straits. The German coast guard vessel Bayeruth began approaching it.
After that, the Russian corvette Soobrazitelny approached from the east at high speed. A message was transmitted from its board: “This is Russian warship 531 speaking. Stay away from Kira K.”
The German vessel moved away, after which the tanker continued on its course.
Earlier, the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired warning shots after a close encounter with a British-flagged yacht in the English Channel.
