Rat poison has been found in baby food sold in Europe, Deutsche Welle reports.
According to the outlet, five jars with contaminated contents were identified in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. In all three countries, products made by Hipp have been pulled from sale.
The company itself said the case was one of blackmail—unknown individuals added rat poison to six jars of baby food and then demanded a payment of 2 million euros. The email containing the demands was discovered only after the deadline they had set had already passed.
As a result of the measures taken, five jars were found—one more remains missing.
