Vladimir Putin has signed a law allowing the Russian Armed Forces to be used to protect Russian citizens detained abroad under decisions issued by foreign courts.
The document was published on Russia’s official legal information portal.
The law expands the president’s already existing powers, under which the military could previously be deployed for tasks outside its direct intended purpose.
The updated list of grounds for deploying the Armed Forces now includes the protection of Russian citizens detained abroad under rulings by foreign judicial authorities.
