Poland plans to deploy an electronic surveillance system along its border with Ukraine at a cost of about $120 million, RMF FM reports. The authorities say the move is aimed at countering illegal border crossings.
The project calls for the installation of poles equipped with daytime surveillance cameras and thermal imaging devices.
“The decision to build the electronic barrier was taken in response to the growing threat posed by Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. The services stress that the situation along Poland’s eastern border remains fluid, while the actions of criminal groups and the rising number of sabotage incidents in the country require firm preventive measures. The barrier is intended not only to make illegal crossings more difficult, but also to improve the detection of—and response to—any incidents that could threaten the state’s security,” the article says.
