Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine had been “continuously” moving billions of dollars through Hungarian territory to the West, including the United States, using those funds to pay for support of the war.
He was commenting on U.S. intelligence claims that Ukrainian authorities had allegedly considered channeling hundreds of millions of dollars into Joe Biden’s election campaign.
Orban pointed to the investigation into the so-called “Ukrainian gold convoy”—the case involving detained cash-in-transit vehicles. According to him, it showed that money was flowing not only from the West into Ukraine, but also in the opposite direction—from Ukraine to Western countries.
He also claims that, ahead of the elections in Hungary, the Ukrainian leadership is acting according to a similar script to the one he says was used in the United States, where, in his version of events, there were attempts to interfere through funding Donald Trump’s rival’s campaign.
“In other words, billions of dollars were continuously flowing from impoverished Ukraine through Hungary to the West. We also know that most of this money was transferred to America. For Zelensky, nothing was too dear: he paid in Ukrainian gold and dollars to those willing to sustain Ukraine’s war. In Hungary, we will put an end to this,” Orban said.
