In Nuremberg, two Syrian nationals have been detained on suspicion of raping a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old. According to police information obtained by Bild, a 21-year-old Syrian committed the assaults against them on the morning of July 3 in an apartment on the south side of the city. The second suspect, a 40-year-old Syrian, is believed to have slipped them drugs the day before.
The investigation is being handled by a special commission of the Middle Franconia police. For several months, law enforcement has been working through leads that drug dealers around Nuremberg's main railway station are deliberately hooking young women on narcotics and then taking them to apartments.
During searches of several apartments, police detained both suspects and seized evidence tied to both the rapes and the distribution of drugs.
The 18-year-old sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Both victims are receiving psychological support. Both suspects have been remanded in custody.
