Nord Stream 2 AG, the company that owns the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, has filed a lawsuit against the European Union over its ban on Russian gas imports, Reuters reports.
The company is seeking to overturn the EU rule providing for a complete phaseout of Russian gas by the end of 2027. In its lawsuit, Nord Stream 2 AG argues that the ban effectively deprives it of the ability to use the pipeline without any compensation.
Before 2022, Russia accounted for about 40% of the European Union’s gas imports. Last year, its share fell to around 13%.
