Parliamentary elections were held in the Netherlands on October 29, with preliminary results showing a narrow lead for the progressive party Democrats 66, BBC News reports.
Democrats 66 is projected to win 27 of the 150 parliamentary seats—the same number as the far-right Party for Freedom led by Geert Wilders, which trailed by only a few tenths of a percent.
For the far right, it marks a clear setback—they are losing ten seats compared to the previous election. By contrast, Democrats 66 have strengthened their position, having held only nine seats in the last parliament.
The center-right People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy came in third, securing 22 seats.
