Netanyahu said Israel intends to give up U.S. financial aid. According to the prime minister, Israel has “grown up,” and it is now time for the country to move “from aid to partnership.”
“I appreciate all the help America has given us over the years. But we no longer need it,” Netanyahu said.
He added that the United States and Israel are now working on a memorandum of understanding on the matter.
The United States has provided Israel with financial support since 1974. The scale and terms of that aid are currently governed by an agreement signed in 2016. It expires in 2028.
Under that agreement, Israel received about $20 billion from the United States in 2025 alone.
