Friedrich Merz said that since taking office as German chancellor, he has no longer filed complaints over insults on social media.
According to Merz, he has become completely immune to such remarks.
“Since I have been in office, I have not filed a single complaint. I did that for a long time, but I stopped; I no longer do it. If someone calls me an idiot, let them do it. I have a different opinion, but that does not yet constitute a criminal offense,” the chancellor said.
Earlier, Welt am Sonntag reported that since 2021 Merz had filed hundreds of complaints over insults directed at him online.
