German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Berlin intends to help facilitate the return to Ukraine of military-age men currently staying in the country.
“We will work closely together on issues concerning Ukrainian citizens who have found refuge in our country, and we will make it easier for them to return home. We will work with Ukraine to limit the number of Ukrainian men seeking refuge here, because it is important that these men be there and help their country,” he said during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin.
According to media reports, the European Union is also discussing a possible revision of the status of Ukrainian refugees after March 2027. Among the options under consideration are restrictions for military-age men, though no final decisions have yet been made.
