Former Polish president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Wałęsa criticized Volodymyr Zelensky following the reburial in Ukraine of Andriy Melnyk, one of the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).
The former Solidarity leader published his statement on social media. Wałęsa said he no longer supports Zelensky and had removed the Ukrainian flag he wore on his chest.
“By honoring UPA bandits, the president of Ukraine insulted me and all our murdered compatriots. In response, I publicly removed the Ukrainian flag from my chest. I will continue helping the people in their struggle against the Soviets. But I withdraw my support for President Zelensky,” Wałęsa wrote.
Earlier, Israel also condemned Melnyk’s reburial. Israeli officials accuse the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists of participating in anti-Jewish pogroms and collaborating with Nazi Germany.
