Over the past several days, residents of Kyiv and the surrounding region have been without electricity for 14–17 hours a day. In many districts, heating is unavailable, and indoor temperatures have fallen to 6 degrees Celsius. The outages are not scheduled but emergency-related: power may return briefly, only to disappear again without warning. This situation is the result of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, which have damaged networks and created a severe capacity shortfall.
Electricity shortages have disrupted public transport, mobile communications, and internet access, while schools, kindergartens, and medical facilities are operating intermittently. Shops and pharmacies have shifted to limited hours, and residents are relying on generators, heating centers, and charging points—reshaping daily life around prolonged outages amid winter cold.
