The National Council of Resistance of Iran said protesters had taken control of two cities—Abdanan and Malekshahi. Fox News reported this, citing sources within the opposition.
According to the organization, chants of “Death to Khamenei” can be heard on the streets, and demonstrators are appealing to Donald Trump for support.
Mass protests have swept across various regions of Iran for around ten days. In some areas, according to eyewitness accounts, police officers have defected to the protesters’ side, while elsewhere security forces have used shotguns and tear gas to disperse demonstrations.
According to available data, at least 29 people have been killed in the unrest, and more than 1,200 have been detained.
State-run Iranian news agencies, however, have not confirmed reports that the cities have fallen under the protesters’ control.
