CNN has revealed further details about reports that Iran has begun placing mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the network, the number so far amounts to only several dozen mines. However, Tehran still retains most of its small boats and minelayers, which in theory would allow it to deploy hundreds more such devices across the waterway.
Donald Trump has already commented on these reports.
“If Iran has placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz—and we have no reports that they have done so—we want them removed immediately! If for any reason mines were placed and they are not taken out at once, the military consequences for Iran will be on a level never seen before. If, however, they remove whatever may have been deployed, that will be a tremendous step in the right direction!”, he wrote on his social network.
